Stats updated, still doing stuff though, further update to come tonight…

Aaaand, I’m back.

I’ve also updated the accounting page, haven’t done that for a while. I’m happy to say the Legion has eliminated the hall rental fee for each night. It was $50 each Monday, and if you check the sheet you’ll see we’ve paid $450 total this year, and that covers us up to the point they’ve eliminated the fee.

That is fantastic news for us as a league, but it doesn’t absolve us from any responsibility to helping out those who help us. I feel we still have some obligation to the Legion and its causes. I’ll have more to say on this later, but it’s obviously something that needs to be discussed among the executive and captains, and input from the players is always accepted as well.

Further update on the Turkey Shoot!

I’ve got a list started, but please let me know as soon as possible your intentions for the Turkey shoot – will you be there, and if so, do you want a turkey or a ham,

It’s happening the last Monday before Christmas (Dec 18th this year) and is a fun night with no league standing implications, but there are spoils to be had.

For those new to the league, or unaware of what happens:

  • Competitors are separated into groups based on their league average. It will depend on the number of people who show up, but generally you’re in a group of 4 or 5 players with a league average in your range. Might be 3 players, might be 6, but it’s decided on the night of play.
  • You play a round robin tournament against those players, playing each other once.
  • Winner of the round robin* gets their prize! A turkey or ham, as they’ve chosen beforehand (Winner is the one with most wins, if a tie remains, a single 01 game is played between those tied for the lead, however many players, and winner takes all)
  • The losing players in the group have to re-up a fee if they wish to continue playing, and then another mini round robin tourney is played, minus the player who already got his prize
  • New mini-tournaments continue until only one player remains who has not yet won a round, and he pays the fee for another round, but receives his prize for the fee this time.
  • All players pay the standard $5 per night to get in, which includes the first round of play
  • Additional rounds cost $1, and the last player standing in a group pays an additional $1 to get their prize
  • NOTE: Historically, round robin consists of a single game of straight in, double out 501, but organizers reserve the right to change that if deemed necessary for time considerations. An individual group can also make adjustments if they all agree to it.
  • BULL SHOOTS!
  • Finally, as things get settled in, there will be bullseye competitions run. Anyone is eligible to play in them, and they usually start after things have settled in with a few people exiting their divisions. The prize for bull shoots is exclusively hams, and the entry is $2 per round. If the physical prizes run out, there may be addition tourneys run for fun with the pot of twonies being the prize
  • Bullshoots just cycle through 3 rounds of each shooter hitting as many bulls as possible. Single/Double rules apply as in a normal game. Most after 3 rounds wins, tie breakers are of course shooting more bull!

See you all on the 27th!
